Who We Are

Samaria Marley
Program and Communications Coordinator
Samaria has worked as a farmer, program director, educator and herbalist in the DMV over the last decade. She is the co-founder of the DC Mutual Aid Apothecary and manages a small scale farm with her family in Brandywine, MD. She is also a musician, playing guitar and banjo and is currently learning fiddle. As Program and Communications Coordinator she helps manage Craft Well's programs, marketing and communications.
Portia Strahan
Thinker + Contemplative Coordinator / Instructor, Board Member
Portia Strahan is the founding principal of POM Studio Architects and a licensed Architect in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. She established POM, which stands for ‘Peace of Mind,’ to promote the visibility of minority architects committed to socially and ecologically restorative design. Portia holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University (2007) and a Master’s in Architecture from the University of Utah (2016). With over 15 years of experience, she has contributed to diverse projects, focusing on community and cultural-based designs, especially in communities of color.


Blain Snipstal
Timber-frame Instructor, Board Member
blain snipstal is a co-owner of Earth-Bound Building, a small yet mighty construction company that specializes in TImber Framing, Natural Building, Custom Carpentry and community projects. He operates a small family farm with his beloved partner and children. blain has been in agriculture as a farmer and farmer-organizer for almost 20 years.
Sarah Sohn
Thought Leader, Board Member
Sarah (she/her) has worked on small vegetable farms on and off since she was a teenager and has had the joy of working with hundreds of brilliant beginning farmers since 2015. She is deeply honored to be working with this cohort of Braiding Seeds fellows and the Soul Fire Farm team. Sarah is Korean American and grew up in Michigan, which is where she worked on her first farm and learned to grow garlic, the vegetable she remains most identified with to this day: sometimes pliant, sometimes a little rigid in the stalk, sometimes curly, always stinky. Fellow garlic people: we contain multitudes!


Dom Hosack
Instructor, Board Member
Dom is a farmer, builder and father based in Southern Maryland. When he’s not covered in sawdust or dirt, Dom teaches carpentry and cooperative development at Craft Well
