About the event
Rhythms of the Diaspora is a cultural festival dedicated to celebrating the deep-rooted musical traditions of the African Diaspora and highlighting the ways music, rhythm, craft, and cultural resilience intersect across time and geography.
Enjoy live performances from Cheick Hamala Diabatè and the Griot Street Band, Hubby Jenkins, Lee Johnson, Honey Belle Soul and Byron Thomas. Attend workshops throughout the day where you can learn directly from these talented artists. Music workshops include Intro to Blues Banjo, Beginner Clawhammer Banjo, African Dance and Intro to Malian Music on Acoustic Stringed Instruments.
Participate in an Indigo Dyeing workshop led by Kenya Miles from Blue Light Junction, or learn to cook flavorful Ethiopian/Eritrean Collard Greens in a Habesha Cooking workshop with Sara Ghebremichael.
Camp out under the stars and enjoy an evening of late night jam sessions, where you can share tunes, learn new ones and build community with other music lovers.
